Milton “Bob” Barton Jr.

Milton R. (Bob) Barton Jr. was born in Blooming Groove, Texas September 1, 1929. He passed away on June 21, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK. At the age of 3 years he moved to Seminole, OK, then at the age of 14 his family moved to Valiant, OK and he graduated from Valiant High School in 1947. Bob went to Oklahoma Baptist University in 1948 on a track scholarship, joined the US Navy in 1948 and served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. After his military service, he went to Southeastern State College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1955 and his Master’s Degree at the University of Oklahoma in 1960. From 1955 to 1961 Bob taught High School Business Education subject and was Junior High Assistant Coach at Clayton, New Mexico. From 1962 to 1964 he was the High School Principal at Boise City, OK. In 1964 he came to Okla. City and went to work at the First National Bank of Oklahoma City serving as VP in Operations for 16 years. From there he went to work at Penn Square Bank until it failed, then to Allied Bank, Citizens National Bank, Continental Federal S&L and Bank of Oklahoma retiring from there in 1991. Bob was an active member of the All Sports Association, bowled in the Bankers Leagues and managed the First National Bank’s softball and basketball leagues. Bob has one son, Michael R. Barton and wife Sharron, and grandson Kyle and two great granddaughters Ella Barton and Josslyn Barton. Bob married Velma Barnett from Elgin, OK in September of 1971 and they have one daughter Lorri Lea and husband Billy Bogges. Bob and Velma have been members of Village Baptist Church since 1977. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, M.R. Barton Sr. and wife Vera, brother, David F. Barton and his sister Billie Ruth McWilliams and her husband Jack McWilliams. He is survived by his sister in law Billye Sue Barton and daughter Susan Taylor, husband Anthony and children Christopher and Blake. Nephews Bob McWilliams and wife Kathryn, children Lauren and Jason. Jack McWilliams and wife Barbara, children Brian and Stacey. Jimmy McWilliams and wife Gladys. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to The Village Baptist Church Renew Campaign 10600 N. May Ave. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73120. Military Service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK. Celebration of Life Reception will be at The Village Baptist Church in the Garden Room on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 1-3 p.m.
